Drain Drops
Case Study · Consumer Product · Mechanical Engineering + Brand
The brief
Clogged drains are a maintenance problem disguised as a plumbing problem: catch the hair before it goes deep into the pipes and builds a home, and the clog never happens. Drain Drops pairs a mechanical drain catch with a specially formulated drain-cleaner tablet that slowly dissolves the would-be clogging hair. Drain maintenance equals clean drains.
What we did
- Product engineering — the drain catch assembly was developed in CAD through exploded and cutaway studies: a catch that traps hair without impeding water flow, while housing the slow-dissolving tablet where the water passes.
- Two-part system design — a mechanical product plus a consumable refill. Engineering the two together is also a business model: the catch earns its place in the drain, and the tablets keep the customer coming back.
- Brand identity — we designed the Drain Drops logo and identity, giving the product a friendly face for a decidedly unglamorous job.
Why it matters
Drain Drops is a compact example of what "turn-key" means in practice: mechanism, consumable, usage instructions, and brand developed as one product rather than four loose ends.
